Le stade s'appela d'abord San Siro du nom du quartier où il était situé. Puis en 1980, le stade changea de nom pour devenir le Stade Giuseppe-Meazza. En effet, en 1979, à la mort du champion interiste Giuseppe Meazza, qui a également joué au Milan AC de 1940 à 1942, les deux clubs utilisant le stade décident de lui donner son nom.
