Clare College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge [4] in Cambridge, England. The college was founded in 1326 as University Hall, making it the second-oldest surviving college of the University after Peterhouse. It was refounded in 1338 as Clare Hall by an endowment from Elizabeth de Clare, and took on its current name in 1856.
In 1326, Clare was the first Oxford or Cambridge foundation to bring together a Master, Fellows, and Scholars in a single community. Today we are a diverse College community brought together by a common interest in learning, teaching, and research with around 100 Fellows, 300 postgraduate students, and 500 undergraduate students.
Founded in 1326, Clare is the second oldest College in Cambridge, home to a thriving community of students and teaching Fellows from all over the world. Clare was founded on inclusivity, and was amongst the first Cambridge Colleges to become co-educational in 1972.
The College has facilities spread across three sites. The main site, Old Court, is located on Trinity Lane. From here, the Avenue leads you across the river and over to Memorial Court. Castle Court is located on Chesterton Road, a few minutes cycle or short walk from Memorial Court and Old Court.
