That's unfortunate considering the artistry and effort that goes into making a movie, but with such a wide variety of films on offer, every year it's only natural certain movies would get lost in the fray. This list (in random order) focuses on those hidden gems that didn’t hit big when they were initially released.

Hidden Figures: Directed by Theodore Melfi. With Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner. Three female African-American mathematicians play a pivotal role in astronaut John Glenn's launch into orbit.
Okay, so if The Sixth Sense was a zombie film, it would be called Hidden. It's a pretty creepy film with some great camera work with a nice twist halfway through reminiscent of The Others. Unfortunately everyone involved over-acts and much of it is shot in such darkness that it's hard to follow the action but these aren't my main beefs.
