  1. Just happily vibing along. It doesn't make for great art, but it is pleasant and has probably led to both her prolificness and her apparent sincerity. She has an unfortunate habit of attempting phonetic representation of a regional or class accent. TLDR: Mercedes Lackey is the pistachios bag of the fantasy section.

  2. Feb 3, 2023 · The first is a young woman who decides to become a warrior after she accidentally becomes both a hero and an embarrassment, the second is a reluctant young man who is a tragic part of the backstory of the main setting. 23. Kind_Tumbleweed_7330. • 1 yr. ago.

  3. Mar 24, 2023 · Numbers in parenthesis indicates length of series because I want to keep track. The Mage Wars (3) The Founding of Valdemar (3) The Last Herald Mage (3) Collegium Chronicles (5) Alberich's Tale (2) Heralds of Valdemar (3) Herald Spy (3) Family Spies (3)

  4. Sep 6, 2013 · Kristen Britain. Yes she is a slower writer but she is amazing. Her newest book will be out in may. And Michelle Sagara/West Chronicles of Elantra series. I love Mercedes Lackey though and her work is amazing she is one of the authors who got me into fantasy. Also Marion Zimmer Bradley. I love the Darkover books.

  5. Figuring out where to start is hard with Mercedes Lackey. Since you like her songs I would start with The Oathbound, read that trilogy and then go to By the Sword. Oathbound was one of her first books. Arrows of the Queen might have been written first and it is a great introduction to her world but it reads a little YA (I loved it when I was 11).

  6. Jun 3, 2023 · Quite good if you like sword & sorcery stuff. 1st novel and the collection are told in an episodic style of semi-connected “case” adventures of different types. There's comedy and murder mystery as well as standard heroic action. 2nd novel is more of a standard epic fantasy plot. 9/10 overall combined.

  7. May 29, 2022 · The half blood chronicles (written with Andre Norton) elves, humans, dragons and magic, start elvenbane. Dragon jousters - basically title. A cool concept, start with joust. The obsidian mountain trilogy (with james Mallory) tons of diff mage types and lesser seen creatures in other fantasy worlds.

  8. Jan 10, 2023 · The 'more standard epic fantasy' is the Obsidian trilogy by Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory. Elves, unicorns, dragons, demons, war and magic. The terrible elves enslaving humans is the Elvenbane series by Mercedes Lackey and Andre Norton. Warning for unfinished series, though I don't remember it being terribly cliffhanger-y.

  9. Jul 6, 2020 · A fourth and final book, The Elvenbred, was last said to be released in 2017. Here we are, halfway through 2020, and no word. I can only imagine how hard it is for an author to finish a book after the passing of a co-author, so maybe that's played a role in the delay. Book three was published in 2002, and Lackey is now 70.
