Golden Down is the second studio album by the American rock artist Willie Nile. It was released in 1981 on vinyl by Arista Records and re-released in 1992 on CD by Razor & Tie.
Paul Allen Wood Shaffer CM (born November 28, 1949) is a Canadian singer, keyboardist, composer, actor, author, comedian, and musician who served as David Letterman's musical director, band leader, and sidekick on the entire run of both Late Night with David Letterman (1982–1993) and Late Show with David Letterman (1993–2015).
Bob Ruggiero of Houston Press wrote that the band, which included Marc LaFrance, Brent Howard Knudsen, and Mick Dalla-Vee along with Bachman and Turner – plus Paul Shaffer on three tracks - "blast[s] with surprising power and strength through all the hits."
Feb 10, 2007 · Willie Nile's 2nd album "Golden Down", follows his great debut of 1980. This album is about just as strong, he uses about the same band except for bass player the late Fred "sonic" Smith of MC5 fame. Paul Shaffer (David Letterman) joins Willie on 6 of these songs.

Jun 12, 2011 · Paul Shaffer was a member of the band led 1975-80 by fellow Canadian Howard Shore for NBC-TV's Saturday Night Live. Latterly Shaffer joined the show's cast in minor comic roles. He also served as music director for the Blues Brothers ( see Blues) and acted in the feature film This is Spinal Tap during this period.
BIOGRAPHY. For 33 years Paul Shaffer served as David Letterman's musical director and sidekick. Paul began his career in 1972 as musical director of the Toronto production of "Godspell."
