The band consisted of Jymie Merrit (bass), Ronnie Matthews (piano), Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), James Spaulding (alto) and Ronald Alexander (soprano). The tunes and performances point to a new rhythmic freedom that would be the next step in the evolution of Jazz.
