Yelaun was born in Kishinev, Moldova, the son of Russian Jewish refugees Vitaliy Yelaun, a software engineer and Golda Yelaun, a chemist. His parents are from Ukraine. Yelaun initially started out as a copywriter for a magazine (P3 Update) and then worked at both Paramount Studios and ABC/Touchstone Television and for independent film producers such as Marty Katz and Lewis B. Chesler, along with experimenting as a full time background actor before he dived into producing.
Yelaun made his feature film debut as a Line Producer on the production of Benjamin Troubles directed by Kai Ephron written by Lee H. Ross (Downloading Nancy) in 2011.
