    Early Life

It is revealed that Tom received boxing lessons from his father when he was in the 4th grade due to being bullied. He notes that his father mistakenly assumed that his bully was a boy, when it was, in fact, his female classmate, Maureen Maroney, who had been tormenting him. In the same year, his mother sent him to take dancing lessons. When he was sixteen, he went on a Valentine's Day dance with his classmate, Diane Thompson. During the dance, his father, Thomas Hanson Sr., was shot and kille...

    Becoming a Police Officer

After graduating high school, Tom immediately joined the police academy, where he graduated at the top of his class. However, despite his efficiency, his tendency for anger and recklessness resulted in an ultimatum from his then-Captain: join the Jump Street program or be demoted until he appeared older. He chose the former and was quickly transferred to Jump Street Chapel, which was under Captain Richard Jenko at the time.

    Joining the Jump Street Program

Although Tom struggled with his first undercover job, he eventually became efficient in playing the part that was needed. During Tom's span at Jump Street he considered quitting since he clearly did not have the temperament needed to be a Police Officer. His time at Jump Street was supposed to last at least 10 years. By Season 4, he appeared in fewer Assignments and by Season 5, zero Assignments. Like many Characters, Tom was not written out of the series.

Tom Hanson can be both ruthless and efficient, and soft and empathetic when needed; traits that often coincide and appear one after another. In earlier episodes, his no-nonsense style of working often conflicts with the nature of the Jump Street Program, and he struggles to assimilate with the group he's assigned to, such as his bewilderment with t...
