Mark Lipson has proved himself an integral member of the Detroit jazz community, performing with three generations of musicians over five decades. An accomplished drummer, composer, arranger, and producer, his early teachers have included Marcus Belgrave, Harold McKinney, Marv “Doc” Holiday, and Rob Pipho.
An artistic rendering of an American tragedy, “I Can’t Breathe” instrumentally recalls the overwhelming trauma and grief that resulted from Mr. Garner’s tragic killing. The title track, “Launch Control,” is an up-tempo blues written by the late euphoniumist, Brad Felt.
