On August 27, 1981, Joyce Lukezic, the wife of William Redmond's business partner Ron Lukezic, was indicted by a county grand jury in connection with the murders. The indictment was based primarily on information supplied to detectives by Merrill; who claimed that Joyce plotted with Cruz to have William Redmond killed.
