Saint Dominic, OP (Spanish: Santo Domingo; 8 August 1170 – 6 August 1221), also known as Dominic de Guzmán (Spanish:), was a Castilian Catholic priest and the founder of the Dominican Order.
On 6 August 1221, only a few years after the papal approval of his Order, Dominic Guzman breathed his last in the Dominican convent in Bologna. Just thirteen years later, he was proclaimed a saint by Pope Gregory IX, who had known the great founder and preacher personally.
