Jun 6, 2015 · Close Encounter with Gregory Hines - Gino Vannelli. June 6, 2015. Twenty years ago, while I was recording “Yonder Tree”, I was stumped. I couldn’t decide what kind of solo was needed in one section of “Falling in Love”. I’d entertained the classic jazz drum solo, but it seemed terribly predictable.
Gregory Oliver Hines (February 14, 1946 – August 9, 2003) was an American dancer, actor, choreographer, and singer. He is one of the most celebrated tap dancers of all time.
The amazing tap dance footwork of the late, great, Gregory Hines opening and closing this tune is absolute genius and only adds to the wonderful energy of Gino's vocals and the talented musicians who accompany him.
