It is the band's only album with lead guitarist Michael Schenker – just 16 at the time of the recording – as a full-time member. He soon left to join UFO and was replaced by Ulrich Roth. Schenker would, however, rejoin briefly during the recording and touring of 1979's Lovedrive.
The first of three co-writes with Michael Schenker (as part of an agreement for his freedom to join UFO), ‘Fly People Fly’ is lyrically twee; it’s main refrain – acting as pre-cursor for the title track – is hippie oriented and several decades later sounds a tad silly.
Fly to the Rainbow features the first lineup change between albums and it’s a pretty notable one. Firstly, guitarist Michael Schenker leaves to join UFO, but his replacement Ulrich Jon Roth would turn out to be one of the most significant members of the band during this early period.

Review Summary: Progressive, ethereal and mystical, Fly To The Rainbow is a superb album and the first collaboration between Uli Roth and Scorpions. By the time Scorpions had released their debut Lonesome Crow in the early 70’s, they already had 7 years under their belt.
