HISTORY. The film's working titles were Seven Women, Jovanka and Jovanka and the Others. The last was also the film's European release title. Five Branded Women was based on the Ugo Pirro novel Jovanka e le altre. Although the book pitted the Yugoslavian resistance against Italian occupiers, the film recast the villains as German Nazis.
