Modest! Management (also known as M*dest) are an artist management company. From 2010 to roughly 2015, Modest were One Direction's primary management team. In 2016, they branched out into golf marketing, building Modest! Golf, with Niall Horan serving as a co-director.
Whenever The X Factor contestants signed with Syco Music, Simon Cowell would assign Modest Management as their management team.
Formed in 2003 by Richard Griffiths and Harry Magee, Modest manages artists careers. The company website states they handle everything from "writing, recording, touring, brand partnerships, merchandise, endorsements, theatre, television and publicity."
The company is extremely unpopular amongst the One Direction fanbase, who feel they have mistreated, controlled, and misbranded the band over the years, to the detriment of 1D not reaching its full potential with a wider audience, due either to deliberate, or unnecessary, career sabotage, at the hands of an incompetent management team. Little Mix's fanbase has voiced similar concerns.
In 2015, Modest's website went down for maintenance and One Direction's artist profile page was not available. Fans were overjoyed at the possibility of One Direction no longer being associated with Modest, to the point where "goodbye modest" trended worldwide on Twitter for over 24 hours and several articles were written documenting the immense reaction. In the same year, it was discovered by a fan on Tumblr that Louis's former girlfriend Eleanor Calder was friends with Modest co-founder Harry McGee's son, and they both attended university together.
