Norma Baumel Joseph (born 1944 in Brooklyn) is an American-born Canadian professor and Jewish feminist activist. In 1990, Joseph was successful in working with the Government of Canada to pass a law that would protect Jewish women in need of a get.
Mar 22, 2024 · Dr. Norma Baumel Joseph is Professor of Religions and Cultures at Concordia University in Montreal; she also helped in the founding of the Concordia Institute for Canadian Jewish Studies, where she remains an associate, and founded and was the Co-director of the Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies.
Author of many publications, Dr. Norma Joseph has received numerous awards and grants in recognition of her scholarly and pedagogic talents. She is currently a recipient of a Canadian research grant: a SSHRC on gender and identity in the Iraqi Jewish Community of Montreal.
