Joe B. Foster (July 25, 1934 – May 9, 2020) was an American businessman, oilman and philanthropist from Texas. From 1989 to 2005, Foster was chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Newfield Exploration Company, headquartered in Houston.

May 11, 2020 · Joe B. Foster, the founder and former chairman, president and CEO of Newfield Exploration Co., has passed away, Ovintiv Inc. said in an internal email sent to employees on May 11. According to the email seen by Hart Energy, Foster, 86, died May 9 at his home in Houston from an apparent heart attack. His death was not COVID-19-related.
