概要. 1951年 に「 株式会社ラジオ東京 」として設立、設立当初は 一般放送事業者 （現：民間特定地上基幹放送事業者）として中波放送事業を、 1955年 にアナログテレビジョン放送を開始。 在京民間放送唯一の ラテ兼営 局となり、 コールサイン の「JOKR」からラジオは「KRラジオ」、テレビは「KRテレビ」と称した。 1960年 10月10日 には 東京証券取引所 に株式を上場。 同年11月29日に商号を「 株式会社東京放送 」（とうきょうほうそう、英: Tokyo Broadcasting System, Inc. ）、略称を「 TBS 」に変更した。
