Madball is an American New York hardcore band. Originated in the late 1980s as a side project of Agnostic Front, [1] the band developed after Agnostic Front's vocalist Roger Miret would let his younger half-brother Freddy Cricien take the microphone and perform lead vocals during Agnostic Front shows.

    • Freddy Cricien
    • Agnostic Front – Victim In Pain (Victim In Pain, 1984) An obvious choice for me, given my history and family ties with these guys. That said, I bet if you asked a few other people from the scene, they’d have this one on their top 10 as well… just saying!
    • Killing Time – No More Mr Nice Guy (Brightside, 1989) This was hard because almost any song on this record could have easily made my top 10. Simply put, Brightside by Killing Time is one of the best hardcore albums of all time, in my humble opinion.
    • Cro-Mags – Malfunction (Age Of Quarrel, 1989) This song always spoke to me on many levels. The pace is slow and heavy and every component of this track is just great!
    • Sheer Terror - Close My Eyes (Ugly And Proud, 1991) Another hard one to pick because I love many of Sheer Terror’s songs. They’re actually one of my favourite NYHC bands; they’re in my top five, for sure.
    • Agnostic Front - Victim in Pain. It all goes back to Agnostic Front. Commonly regarded as New York's first homegrown hardcore band, their 1984 debut, Victim in Pain, put a uniquely cold and fortified thumbprint on the faster punk styles that were bubbling up in D.C.
    • Bad Brains - Bad Brains. Someone's always bound to split hairs when Bad Brains pop up on a NYHC list, but not including one of the scene's — not to mention the genre's — most influential acts is more of a disservice to the canon than glossing over the fact that they technically formed in D.C..
    • Cro-Mags - Age of Quarrel. Age of Quarrel is one of the most essential crossover thrash LP's of all time, and in many people's minds, the first exceptional metallic hardcore album.
    • Gorilla Biscuits - Start Today. After doing time in Youth of Today, future Quicksand frontman Walter Schreifels moved to guitar in a new band called Gorilla Biscuits who were fronted by Anthony "CIV" Civarelli.
