  1. The city of Miami, Florida in the United States is a popular location for the filming and setting of movies and television shows, both fictional and non-fictional. The following article provides a list of films and television shows which have been partially or wholly set in or shot in Miami.

    • Moonlight. This 2016 autobiographical drama snagged three Oscars and showed viewers a grittier but real side of Miami that many had not seen before. With scenes filmed in the history-rich area of Liberty City, the captivating movie is about a black gay man growing up in the macho Liberty Square public housing complex based on a play by Miami native Tarell Alvin McCraney.
    • Marley and Me. Star-struck locals stayed busy trying to keep up with all the scenes that were shot around Miami for this 2008 hit about a couple, played by Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, who moved to South Florida and were always chasing after their naughty dog Marley.
    • Bad Boys Franchise. This action comedy film series loved Miami so much, they returned three times! Bad Boys (1995), Bad Boys II (2003), and Bad Boys for Life (2020) all star Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as narcotics detectives in the Miami Police Department.
    • Miami Vice. It had to be done, right? The popular TV show that put Miami on the map was turned into a movie in 2006. The makers of the film starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell took over South Florida, filming at the now-closed Mansion nightclub on Washington Avenue, which reigned as a nightlife haven in South Beach for years.

    • Suddenly We Jumped (2014) Why not show Miami as oblivion? Antonia Wright’s short silent film was last shown at Borscht Diez earlier this year, adding another layer of astonishment to an already disorienting film festival celebrating its own self-destruction.
    • Moonlight (2016) You know Moonlight. It's the infamous Oscar winner whose glory was brought down by a mixup of hubris by an idiot accountant of PricewaterhouseCoopers distracted by tweeting a picture of Emma Stone.
    • Postmodem (2013) Shot by local filmmakers/artists Lucas Leyva and Jillian Mayer, this film might not be what most people think of when they think of Miami movies, but it’s a work that could've been made only by Miami-born artists.
    • Cocaine Cowboys (2006) Cocaine Cowboysis one of the best documentaries ever filmed in Miami. It captures a period with incredible verve, famously containing something like 5,000 edits in its kinetically paced narratives.
    • Scarface. Sure, The Godfather: Part II might be a better movie than Scarface, but there's no debate as to which movie is most Miami; it’s Scarfaceby a mile.
    • The Godfather: Part II. Sequels aren’t supposed to be as good as the original, but The Godfather: Part IImay be one of the rare movies whose sequel actually kicked the prequel's ass.
    • Bad Boys. The original can’t be topped. The plot might be overdone, but the movie itself will always feel very Miami. Will Smith owned 1995, and Martin Lawrence was hotter than ever too, so the pair combined to attract a huge audience for this film.
    • Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. This 1994 Jim Carrey movie isn’t just a Miami favorite; it’s a classic. People still throw around Ace Ventura quotes to this day, and you know what?
