Ottersen er utdannet ved Statens Teaterhøgskole og har vært fast ansatt ved Nationaltheatret siden 1970. [8] . Hun har også hatt mange roller i både Fjernsynsteatret og NRK Radioteatret . Ottersen er likevel mest kjent fra film og TV.
