Lionel Newton is a South African actor and director best known to television audiences for creating, writing and starring as a three-dimensional stereotype of himself in the SABC3 comedy series Sorted, from 2005-2006.
The film stars Baby Cele, Lionel Newton, and Michele Burgers amongst others. Characters were built from the ground up with South African actors by using improvisation. The film won the Chicago International Film Festival award in 1997 for best film.
Lionel Newton is known for his roles in Sorted, Isidingo, Rhythm City and other TV shows and films. He has also won awards for his theatre performances and created his own comedy series.
