Thomas Beach Alter (22 June 1950 – 29 September 2017) was an Indian actor. He was best known for his works in Hindi cinema , [3] [4] and Indian theatre. [5] In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India .
Tom Alter was a versatile and acclaimed actor who worked in Hindi, English and regional cinema, as well as TV and theatre. He was born in India to American missionaries, studied at FTII, and won the Padma Shree award in 2008.

Tom made his big screen debut in 1976 with a small role in Dharmendra-starrer Charas and later went on to work in many films.
