James Burke (July 5, 1931 – April 13, 1996), also known as "Jimmy the Gent", was an American gangster and Lucchese crime family associate who is believed to have organized the 1978 Lufthansa heist, the largest cash robbery in American history at the time.
Jimmy Conway, based on James Burke, was a notorious mobster who participated in the Lufthansa heist and other crimes. He was convicted of conspiracy and died in prison in 1996, after Henry Hill testified against him.

Plot. In 1955, youngster Henry Hill becomes enamored of the criminal life and Mafia presence in his working class Italian-American neighborhood in Brooklyn. He begins working for local caporegime Paulie Cicero and his associates: Jimmy "the Gent" Conway, an Irish-American truck hijacker and gangster, and Tommy DeVito, a fellow juvenile delinquent.
