Édouard Dermit (1925-1995), né de parents slovènes émigrés en France, est l’aîné d’une famille de cinq enfants. Quand il rencontre Cocteau en juillet 1947, à la librairie Paul Morihien à Paris, il est encore « chargeur au fond » aux mines d’Amermont-Dommary, à Bouligny (Meuse).
