Detective Chief Inspector Gene Hunt (1934–1953 onwards) was the often brutal, self-important superior officer of DI Sam Tyler in 1973 and DI Alex Drake from 1981 to 1983. In 1980, following the apparent death of Tyler, he transferred from Manchester to Fenchurch East in London with his colleagues.
