He started his player career in 1928 with Volny Trud, then he played for Gomel FC, Dynamo Gomel, and, between 1936-42, FC Dynamo Moscow. During his career Kachalin played in 36 Soviet Top League matches, winning the League title in 1937 and 1940 and the Soviet Cup in 1937.
