Fred Dryer - Wikipedia. John Frederick Dryer (born July 6, 1946) is an American actor, radio host, and former professional football player. He was a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL) for 13 years, participating in 176 games starting in 1969 until his retirement in 1981.
Fred Dryer is best known for playing Hunter, a tough cop in a TV series that ran from 1984 to 1991. He also played football for the New York Giants and the Los Angeles Rams, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
