  3. BIOGRAPHY. I was born on December 10, 1933, in Santa Monica, CA, and was raised on a small cattle ranch in southwest Colorado, near Durango . I was thrown off of my first horse (a big palomino mare, actually) when I was four years old and still remember going over her ears and landing in a plowed field.
