Amstel Brewery (Dutch: Amstelbrouwerij [ˈɑmstəlbrʌuəˌrɛi]) is a Dutch brewery founded in 1870 on the Mauritskade in Amsterdam. It was taken over by Heineken International in 1968, and the brewing plant closed down in 1982, with production moving to the main Heineken plant at Zoeterwoude .

Amstel, since 1870. In 1870, Charles de Pesters and Johannes van Marwijk Kooy established the Amstel Brewery on the Mauritskade in Amsterdam. While Amsterdam cafes, beer houses and restaurants remained the most important market for Amstel beer, sales opportunities expanded outside Amsterdam parallel with the development of the railway network.
It follows the traditional brewing method of pilsner beers, resulting in a light, crisp, and golden brew with a balanced hop bitterness. Despite being acquired by Heineken International in 1968, Amstel has retained its distinct character and remains a popular choice among beer lovers.
