Michaela Mabinty DePrince (born Mabinty Bangura, 6 January 1995) is a Sierra Leonean-American ballet dancer, currently dancing with the Boston Ballet. She rose to fame after starring in the documentary First Position in 2011, following her and other young ballet dancers as they prepared to compete at the Youth America Grand Prix .
Michaela DePrince was born in war-torn Sierra Leone, right in the midst of the country’s decade-long civil war. Rebels killed her father, and shortly after, her mother died of fever and starvation. At a young age, Michaela had vitiligo, a condition that causes patches of skin to lose its color.

Biography. Michaela DePrince trained at The Rock School of Dance Education in Philadelphia, PA and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre. In 2012, she joined Dance Theatre of Harlem. A year later, she was invited to join the Dutch National Ballet’s Junior Company.
