Springtime and holidays are the busiest times of the year and the park can be very crowded. On hot days, avoid hiking during the hottest part of the day, take shade breaks, and carry plenty of water.

At the higher elevations, snow is possible. The best time to visit Joshua Tree National Park is during the spring and fall months, when temperatures are mild. In the spring and fall, daytime highs range from the mid-50’s to the mid-70’s. Rainfall is extremely low during this time.
Joshua Tree National Park lies within the Pacific flyway for migratory birds, and is a rest stop for many. It was for this unusual diversity of plants and animals that Joshua Tree National Monument was set aside on August 10, 1936.
