Now Barabbas, also known as Now Barabbas Was a Robber, is a 1949 British drama film directed by Gordon Parry and starring Richard Greene, Cedric Hardwicke and Kathleen Harrison. It was based on a 1947 play of the same title by William Douglas Home.
Now Barabbas was a revolutionary. Literal Standard Version Therefore they all cried out again, saying, “Not this One—but Barabbas”; and Barabbas was a robber.
Now Barabbas is a play by the British writer William Douglas Home. Its original West End run at the Vaudeville Theatre lasted for 130 performances from 7 March to 28 June 1947. It concerns a variety of inmates at a British prison, including new arrivals, old hands and a convicted murderer sentenced to hang.
The person in question, Barabbas, is identified as a murderer and rebel (Luke 23:18–19). In one sense, Pilate seems to be pushing back against the claims of Jesus' enemies. He knows, with certainty, that Jesus is innocent and that this is a personal vendetta (Matthew 27:18, Mark 15:10).
An ensemble cast including Richard Greene, Ronald Howard, Cedric Hardwicke, Richard Burton (in his second screen role), Kenneth More and Harry Fowler star in a drama set in a British prison focusing on eclectic group of inmates and their stories.

The word includes the meaning of unrestrained violence, which often leads to bloodshed ( Mark 15:7; Luke 23:19 ), and is thus used in a striking parallel in Sophocles:— “And him, so rumour runs, a robber band.
