This Danish Midsummer celebration takes place annually on June 23. Sankt Hans aften is a mash-up of pre-Christian summer solstice celebrations and the Christian tradition of Saint John the Baptist’s birthday on June 24.
Sankt Hans er en fest for midsommeren. Den 24. juni er Sankt Hans dag, og det er aftenen før, altså den 23., der fejres som Sankt Hans aften. Dagen har været fejret i Norden gennem mange århundreder, og er bl.a. beskrevet af Olaus Magnus, der skrev en krønike om de nordiske folks historie i 1555.
