A German soldier’s decision to desert his unit and assume a dead man’s identity leads to a life of wandering for the newly minted Sgt. Klems, who finds himself captured by Arabs en route to meet the real Klems’s widow eight years later.
During the final days of world war one, a German army deserter steals the identity of a dead German soldier. His new name is Otto Josef Klems. After the war, he joins the French Foreign Legion as Sergeant Otto Josef Klems.
Deserting the French Foreign Legion, WWI veteran Sergeant Otto Klems (Strauss) finds his sympathies drawn toward the forces of Mohamed Abdel Krim (Pier Paolo Capponi), the revered leader of the resistance.
