Stefan Hein, a German doctoral candidate, ostensibly journeys to San Francisco for a medical conference, but he has ulterior motives. His late father, a prominent medical researcher in the former East Germany, proposed the idea that the AIDS epidemic was the result of a botched experiment by the US.
A serial killer is haunting the gay bars of San Francisco and is killing HIV positive long-term survivors. Stefan, a young gay East German medical student, arrives in the city for a medical congress and is following the trail of his dead father, a once high ranking AIDS researcher in the East.
