The Black Stallion is a 1979 American adventure film based on the 1941 classic children's novel of the same name by Walter Farley. The film starts in 1946, five years after the book was published. It tells the story of Alec Ramsey, a boy who is shipwrecked on a deserted island with a wild Arabian stallion that he befriends.

The first half of "The Black Stallion" is so gloriously breathtaking that the second half, the half with all the conventional excitement, seems merely routine. We've seen the second half before — the story of the kid, the horse, the veteran trainer, and the big race.
After a tragedy at the race track leaves the Black afraid of his own shadow, Alec turns to the eccentric Hollywood horse trainer Wes Taylor for help, but the Black Stallion’s recovery and his future racing career is threatened by a series of mysterious mishaps plaguing the ranch.
