But most movie buffs aren't aware that Kazan himself considered a little film noir called Boomerang (1947) to be his breakthrough film. Boomerang opens with the shocking murder of an elderly priest (Wyrley Birch) as he takes an after-dinner stroll through his neighborhood, greeting members of his community.
When a kindly priest is murdered while waiting at a street corner in a quiet Connecticut town, the citizens are horrified and demand action from the police. All of the witnesses identify John Waldron, a nervous out-of-towner, as the killer.
