German commander Hauptmann Stransky places a squad in extreme danger after Sergeant Rolf Steiner refuses to lie for him. In 1943, on the Russian front, decorated leader Rolf Steiner (James Coburn) is promoted to Sergeant after another successful mission.
It is 1943, and the German army—ravaged and demoralised—is hastily retreating from the Russian front. In the midst of the madness, conflict brews between the aristocratic yet ultimately pusillanimous Captain Stransky and the courageous Corporal Steiner.
Mar 10, 2006 · Cross of Iron is set in the German army but hasn't the usual conflict between ordinary soldiers and Nazi fanatics. Maximillian Schell's Stransky is a Prussian honor-bound by his aristocratic family to come back from the front with the Iron Cross.
