We soon learn that their relationship is not without friction, she offering him a kiss and a boot as he leaves the apartment in search of a corsage. We'll be following them over the course of one night during which Edward (Daniel Gélin) will endeavour to impress the friends of Caroline's (Anne Vernon) much wealthier uncle.
Claude is the snobbish uncle of Caroline, his son Alain (as snobbish as his father) is in love with Caroline. They spite Edouard a little because he's poor. At the party, Edouard must play the piano to make himself known by Claude's important acquaintances.
