Help Wanted: Male. A publisher (Suzanne Pleshette) pays a sportswriter (Gil Gerard) to make her a mother after learning her future husband (Bert Convy) cannot.

Pleshette wants a baby, but the conservative elements who own the magazine and buy ad space won't tolerate an unmarried woman at the helm. The man she loves, commitment-phobic Bert Convy, has had a vasectomy and cannot giver her what she wants.
