An old man named Thuy (Arsenio 'Sonny' Trinidad) protests, denouncing the government for commandeering the villagers' entire rice crop. Khan Ly thanks him and tells everyone that speaking one's mind is important for democracy. After the meeting, Colonel Tuong orders Ho to assassinate Khan Ly.
"The Iron Triangle" comes out of a sensibility like that. We see the action from two points of view - through the eyes of Keene, an American infantry captain (Beau Bridges), and Ho, a 17-year-old Viet Cong foot soldier (Liem Whatley).
Set in 1969 Vietnam, two leaders from both sides are thrown together and must deal with each other as people, not faceless enemies.
Based on the diary of an unknown Viet Cong soldier, this film provides a sympathetic look at a Viet Cong soldier who protected a captured American soldier whom he believed did not kill him when the American had the opportunity.
