To Joy takes its title from Schiller's Ode to Joy as used in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. It is an early film by Bergman that is a moving examination of the rocky marriage of two violinists in an orchestra. It is reminiscent of Bergman's later television series, Scenes from a Marriage.
