The company also produced a handful of films through its subsidiaries, Michael Productions, Joel Productions and Douglas and Lewis Productions, and outside the United States through Brynaprod.
Kirk Douglas founded Bryna Productions, named after his mother Bryna Demsky, in 1955, one of the first Hollywood stars to become an independent producer, and one of the most successful of the period.
In September 1949, he established Bryna Productions, which began producing films as varied as Paths of Glory (1957) and Spartacus (1960). In those two films, he collaborated with the then relatively unknown director Stanley Kubrick, taking lead roles in both films.
