Jian Wang (Chinese: 王健; pinyin: Wáng Jiàn; born 1968) is a Chinese cellist. A soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and teacher, he was the first Chinese musician to ever sign an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon.
Destined to be a concert cellist, Jian Wang’s fate was sealed in 1979, as a ten year old prodigy featured in Isaac Stern ‘s award-winning documentary “From Mao to Mozart”. He instantly mesmerized the world with his strikingly forlorn rendition of the Eccles Cello Sonata.
