Yang Shangkun. Born in Sichuan province in 1907, Yang Shangkun joined the Communist Youth League in 1925 and the Communist Party of China in 1926, and took part in the student movement in Sichuan and Shanghai in that period. From 1927 to 1930, he studied at Sun Yat-sen University in Moscow.

Yang Shangkun ( 杨尚昆; 3 August 1907 – 14 September 1998) was Political Commissar of the Third Army Group of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army in 1932. He later was Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Vice-Chairman of the Military Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
