Elias Peter Hoayek (Arabic: الياس بطرس الحويّك; 4 December 1843 – 24 December 1931; also spelled Hoyek, Hwayek, Huayek, Juayek, Hawayek, Houwayek) was the 72nd Patriarch of Antioch for the Maronites, the largest Catholic community in the Levant, from 1898 to 1931 when he died.
Archbishop and Patriarch Elias Peter Hoayek (1843 – 1931) (alt. spellings Hoyek, Hwayek,Huayek, Juayek, Hawayek) (Arabic: الحويك); was born in Helta, Lebanon. He was Patriarch of Antioch for the Maronites, the largest Christian community in the Middle East from 1898 to 1931 when he died.
Elias Hoyek was Patriarch of Antioch for the Maronites. He is considered to be one of the fathers of Lebanonism, a symbol of resistance against Ottoman hegemony, and the founder of Lebanese Independence.
