Sophia Charlotte of Hanover (30 October 1668 – 1 February 1705) was the first Queen consort in Prussia as wife of King Frederick I. She was the only daughter of Elector Ernest Augustus of Hanover and his wife Sophia of the Palatinate. Her eldest brother, George Louis, succeeded to the British throne in 1714 as King George I.
Queen of Prussia who brought her Hanoverian cultural heritage to the backward Prussian court and became patron, pupil, and good friend of the great mathematician and philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Born in 1668, the only daughter of Elector Ernst August (1629-1698) of Hanover, Sophie Charlotte was named after her mother, Sophie (1630-1714), and Sophie's niece, princess Elisabeth Charlotte (1652-1722) of the Palatinate, who was eventually to become, in 1671, the duchess of Orléans.
