Josephine of Leuchtenberg (Joséphine Maximilienne Eugénie Napoléone de Beauharnais; 14 March 1807 – 7 June 1876), also Josefina, was Queen of Sweden and Norway from 8 March 1844 to 8 July 1859 as the wife of King Oscar I.
Joséphine Maximiliana Eugenia Napoleona of Leuchtenberg was born in March 1807 in Milan, the daughter of French General Eugène de Beauharnais and Princess Augusta Amalia of Bavaria. On 23 August 1822, Crown Prince Oskar came on a visit to Eichstätt in Bavaria, where he met the 15-year-old Joséphine.

If her house name sounds familiar, that would be because Beauharnais is the family name of Napoleon’s first wife and empress, also called Josephine. (I’ve covered her in this series!) Her father, Eugène, was the Empress’ son from her first marriage, and his step-father made him Duke of Leuchtenberg.
