Butler Traditional High School, originally named Suda East Butler High School, opened in 1954 to address the growing Shively community and the overcrowding of Valley High School. Located on 27.25 acres, Butler’s campus was originally home to farms owned by the Sweeney and Crum families.
Located on 27.25 acres, Butler’s campus was originally home to farms owned by the Sweeney and Crum families. In 1989, Suda East Butler became the second traditional high school in JCPS. At this time, the school was renamed Butler Traditional/Technical High School, and it became the first public high school in the nation to require school uniforms.
